What makes these courses even more special is that with the high altitude, golf balls fly 10% further, or around 25 yards. Like the ski slopes, theres a golf course for every type of golfer, from beginning to advanced. The thin, high-altitude air may just make a beginner look advanced.

Golfing at Glenbrook And Beyond
Two of the most popular courses are at the Northgate Golf Club and Wildcreek. Northgate is a Scottish style course. It has even been termed the St. Andrews of the Sierra. Wildcreek has been home to PGA Senior Tour. It is noted for the challenge it offers even top golfers.

One of the better features of the area is that even if it rains and you are not able to golf, you can make your way to a casino. Theres always something to do. Remember, rain at the foot of the mountain may mean powdery snow at the top. If your family has split-allegiances to certain activities, you can just split up for the day and everyone can do what they like.

Zephyr Cove is around ten minutes from Stateline, home of a multitude of casinos and the Heavenly Ski Resort. Ten minutes can seem both close by and a lifetime away. What I mean by that is that Zephyr Cove can feel very private and remote, away from the intensity and the crowds of the casinos, while at the same time it is a very short drive when the mood strikes you.

Zephyr Cove homes are separated by woods, i.e. they are not right next to each other. At times you can feel like the only person on the mountainside. There may be no more peaceful setting. Yet at the same time there is a feeling of neighborliness–this is a friendly community.

There are lake view homes available at Zephyr Cove as well. Again, I cannot stress enough the luxury of both being in a pristine wooded setting, while having close access to attractions. Really this what they mean by the best of both worlds.

It may be one of the nicest places to live in the United States. When you compare it to all of Lake Tahoe, this is really saying something. The season for ski lodges in Lake Tahoe is generally from November to May. However, this doesnt make ski lodges useless in the summer. There may not be skiing during these times but there is still the natural beauty of the mountainside. At these times, you just travel down the mountain and go boating on Lake Tahoe or go to a casino.

What this suggests is that ski lodges are a year-round affair, even if the skiing season is only six months long. Theres certain to be less traffic when its off-season. For those who value their privacy, this can be a good time to go. Its like you have the entire mountain to yourself.
